The sound of the wind made him think of a time when all was not lost. A time he hardly remembered was when Mary, his childhood sweetheart, had taken him by the hand and led him to the road past "Mourning Stones", and offered him an innocent kiss. She wanted to tell him that he was not one of those people who go through life without ever seeing a circus elephant dance.
