I read tons of mysteries--Martha Grimes, Elizabeth George--her book on writing is good by the way. Just finished The Geography of Bliss--really enlightening--a curmudgeon on a worldwide quest for the happiest people on the planet. Read lots of books on art, artists, etc. Love Ray Bradbury, ok...I'm in love with Ray Bradbury. Used to love Asimov, too. Haven't read much science fiction lately, probably could use some advice on who to read now. (Hint Hint) I'll read anything that doesn't run away screaming. Our library lets us keep out 50 at a time--and I do! Cheesy Just got some emerging  poets books-a writing teacher once told me I wrote like James Wright, so I just now decided to see for myself. There are some great new poets out there. Love any kind of anthology. Love David Sedaris, The Secret Garden, and if I'm desperate, I'll read a romance thriller or two--mostly thriller with a little romance. Oh dear, think I'm running out of room. Faergenwrites

Well, after I'm done with The Fountainhead, I intend to get started on Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep by Philip K. Dick.  There's also an entire library of books by Bradbury, and I don't think I've ever met anybody who's managed to read them all.

I hear that's very dissimilar to the film adaptation. I'd be interested to hear what they are.

I don't read much science fiction, but I really like Neal Stephenson's work. Snow Crash, and Diamond Age were both really good (Snow Crash is one of my favortie books ever), and science fiction. I also just finished reading his Baroque Trilogy which is an interesting bit of historical science fiction and was pretty good.

Actually most of his work is really good, and some of it is science fiction.

Huge fan of historical science fiction. Historical fiction in general.

I am currently only reading Catch-22, because that's the only thing left on my shelf I haven't read in the last two years. The story feels lonely in my mind, all by itself... I need more books to read concurrently to keep it company.

Time to go to the library.

I don't know of any Bradbury I haven't read. I need to get a list and check. Right now, along with several mystery series, I'm reading Patricia Highsmiths biography. She's the author of The Talented Mr. Ripley. Several movies have been done, the latest with Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon. She freely admits to being a lesbian stalker--well, she stalked lesbians but she was one herself.  Grin VVEEDDDY INNNTERESSSTINK!

Now reading The Illuminatus! Trilogy, Joe Orton's Complete Plays, and the first three hundred or so of the Thousand Nights and a Night, still looking for the rest of the volumes on that.

Definitely some books here that I am going to read, but currently I'm involved with:

The Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway

There always seems to be a story in there that ignites humanity's perception on existence.

Finally finished out The Fountainhead (review available at my blog, link in sig).  You can add another tick to your count, Javert.  Next up: Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep (aka Awkwardly Long Title) by Philip K. Dick.

I've got about 3 different books on the go at the moment.  I'm reading a book entitled The Unfolding of Language, which is a bit of pre-reading on Linguistics before starting university in October.  Then there's Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis - I'm a fan of his Narnia Chronicles, but I've never read any of his non-fiction before, so I thought I'd give that a go.  I've also got a 'popcorn thriller' open (albeit intermittently): The Final Reckoning by Sam Bourne.  I read his previous book, The Lost Testament, which was entertaining enough to warrant a go at this one too.

I'm going to read the Narnia series again. I remember I liked it immensely. Thanks for reminding me.  Cheesy I also checked out a 37 pound Bradbury short story book. Dang near got a hernia. I have 5 rooms filled to the rafters. I've no more room so go to library. I'm a Mayan culture freak and have all the most known books from the early explorations. Trying to read 1421--the Year China Discovered America. Right up my allee. Mysteries in an old map, etc. Non-fiction. Obviously I'm a bit older than most of you--having already read the classics--(not bragging, just complaining!!) But am starting to get the urge to re-read some. Thanks a lot guys--like I don't have 23.6 millions books to read already!! Grin

You might be interested in a book called: "Pastwatch:The Redemption of Christopher Columbus" by Orson Scott Card. Not actually about the Mayans, but involves the Aztecs and Tlaxcala... and also the discovery of america by Europeans.
