As promised, here's the thread for the consideration:
Yeah but it would be so much better if we could get a FFF book going.
So, let's do it!
There's one major issue to discuss, and it's all about money. If we decide to put this up on Lulu or Createspace and sell it, then we need to figure something out. Before you start pinching your wallets, though, let's think about some things.
First, there's the option of even royalties between all contributors. This means that we all split the money evenly. There's also the option of pro-rata distribution. That effectively means that each contributing writer's word count determines the percentage of royalty. I don't like this method because it feels like the effort of creating a micro-fiction collection is all about writing short works, and a pro-rata method rewards those with the most words.
But, there's an easy way to forgo all of this. Skip the whole concept of getting paid a small amount for the small fiction and put all of the money in a fund. What do we do with that fund?
- Give it to a charity
- Fund contests and promotions
- Develop a savings for future projects
Then, whatever happens with it, you'll always know that you helped it happen. This way, we can sell it for $1 each (plus whatever the printer wants) without worrying about scrabbling for cents.
Format: since the works we're putting into it are themselves tiny, then we should make a tiny book. The cover would be simple: "FFF MICRO FICTION" covering every square inch of the small cover, and the total size of the book being as small as feasible. Just big enough to house a 50-word story with a title and a small attribution.
Length: Well, this is tricky. How many micro-fictions do we want to include?
Ready? Brainstorm!
